The Peace Offerings...or "Sleep" Offerings

Being a parent is one of the greatest blessings of my life. There is nothing like it. Kids bring true joy to life. But let's face it - at the end of a long day - there are those moments when I just want to get the kids to bed, crash on the couch and kick up my feet to relax. I mean, hey, there's a reason kids are so adorable when they're sleeping.

Just when I'm about to the point of having my brain numbed up with SportsCenter, I'll hear something down the hall. That numb feeling quickly turns to an "Oh gripes" feeling. I get up and start my walk towards their room and I either hear someone running back to their room, or they just surrender immediately claiming that they need a drink, or medicine, or another book, or a song, or a story, or that they're suddenly scared of the room they've slept in most of their lives.

But my kids have even surprised me on top of that. Now, instead of waiting for me to catch them, they're leaving out "offerings." At first this threw me off a bit. Macy was the first to attempt it. She'd leave out a toy or some random item from her room. This designated that I was to come in TO HER and find out what the concern was - that's her theory, anyway. She leaves anything from stuffed animals, to (as pictured here) toy cups from her kitchen set. She's pretty quiet about it too - unless it takes me longer than five minutes to realize she's "offered" the toy. Then she starts making high-pitched noises to get our attention.

As quiet as Macy is, Drake is stealth. He also leaves an offering - although it's the same thing every time. Himself. He'll just come out, lay in the corner of the hallway (again, pictured), and fall asleep until one of us finds him. He's so quiet about it, though, that I've nearly stepped on him twice, walking down the dark hallway.

For Macy, I think this is a way to prolong the process of actually having to go to bed - and she fights it every night. For Drake, he probably just wants to fall to sleep to the sweet, mind-numbing sounds of SportsCenter. Da-da-da.....Da-da-da.
