Sandbox Fun

Early in May, I surprised the family by taking them to the beach in Newport, Oregon. We stayed at a beach house of a friend (and they know who they are - and we appreciate so much their kindness to allow us to do that) and had a blast. The weekend was a special one for our family. It was Macy's birthday, Mother's Day weekend and our wedding anniversary all wrapped up into one.

The beach was great. There were shell fossils galore on the beautiful rocks. One morning the tide was so low that we were able to see all kinds of star fish, anemones and cool pools and such. We had a great time. The weather was decent, and I just love the ocean.

We stopped by to check out one of two lighthouses in Newport. Macy thought the rocks were "cool." Drake thought that the ocean was "smelly." Nakae said "goo goo ga ga" a couple of times.

Drake's attempt at pretending to not be intimidated by the towering lighthouse. He wanted to check it out inside, but it hadn't opened yet for the day. Too many stairs anyway, right?

Macy Ann posing next to a star fish. She's also doing her best at avoiding eye contact with the camera at all cost. That's her new thing. In the past few months we've struggled to find any photo of her actually LOOKING at the camera. My parents are probably laughing, thinking "serves you right." I'm well known in the family for my "goofing off way too much" poses.

Nakae and I hanging out on the beach - exploring rocks. Nakae was super excited to be with his dad, strapped in and all. Can't you tell?

Nakae and Mom hanging out on the beach. He's totally miserable, as you can see, hanging out with his mom. The kid was kicking and screaming to get back with his dad.

GQ. Drake is totally stylin' it on this photo shoot.

Uhhhhhhhh.... GQ's dad. Hey, he may not have the same look and quality as his son, but at least his other son is happy to be back with dad, after that sad display with mom. Seems much happier and content here.... Ahem.

The glorious end to the weekend finally came and the sun set on our adventures. It was a fantastic trip and a much needed break for all of us. Can't wait to go back!

Don't try this at home....But ENJOY!

My boss sent this to me at work, and I've had too much fun watching it over and over again. Watch the sledgehammer disappear at the end. Now that is what I call some serious backfire. This reminds me of my days in the mission field. During New Year's or Independence Day in the Philippines, it wasn't uncommon for a stick of dynamite to blow up next to your house. Trust me, I know. Talk about a rude awakening. Just so we all know how that can go, one of our mission compadres was missing an eye because of this kind of stuff - happened to him when when he was a kid. And to think I used to believe I was a rebel for firing off "illegal" bottle rockets back when I was a kid.
